A very warm welcome to St Michael's Catholic Primary School, and thank you for taking the time to visit our website. I hope it provides you with a genuine insight into our wonderful school community and all that makes St Michael's such a special place to learn, grow and flourish.
Having joined St Michael's as a teacher in 2006, and serving as Headteacher since 2014, I feel incredibly privileged to lead our school. I am immensely proud of our pupils, staff, governors and families, who together create a thriving, caring and successful community.
Established in 1953, St Michael's has a long tradition of excellence in Catholic education. In December 2022, we joined with five other local Catholic primary and secondary schools to form the Ascension Catholic Academy Trust (ACAT), strengthening our collaboration and commitment to providing the very best educational opportunities for our children.
We are a two-form entry school serving children aged 2 to 11 years. Our maintained Nursery, established in 2016, has quickly built an excellent reputation and shares the same high standards and nurturing ethos that characterise the whole school. St Michael's is part of the Diocese of Westminster and proudly serves the parishes of St Michael, Ashford, and St David, Stanwell.
Our mission statement, "Excellence, Enrichment, Enjoyment," lies at the heart of everything we do. We provide a broad, balanced and ambitious curriculum that inspires, engages and challenges our pupils, helping them to become enthusiastic, independent and lifelong learners. Our curriculum is carefully designed around the needs of our children, raising aspirations, developing resilience and ensuring that pupils leave Year 6 as confident, articulate and knowledgeable young people.
Reading is a major priority throughout our school. We know that becoming a fluent reader and developing a genuine love of reading unlocks learning across the curriculum, broadens understanding of the world and significantly enhances children's future opportunities. Our curriculum is expertly planned and delivered by highly skilled teachers, supported by outstanding facilities and resources that enable every child to achieve their full potential.
The Gospel values and Catholic virtues of friendship, responsibility, respect, self-respect, honesty, forgiveness, tolerance, justice, compassion, patience, generosity and empathy form the golden thread that runs through every aspect of school life. These values are reflected in our teaching, our relationships and our daily interactions. Alongside this, we actively promote British values, including democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs. These principles are lived through our daily acts of worship, our service to others and the example we set as a school community.
As an inclusive school, we believe that every child is unique and made in the image of God. We work in close partnership with parents and carers to ensure that every child is supported, valued and empowered to flourish both academically and personally.
We know that children thrive when they feel safe, secure and cared for. Creating a happy, nurturing environment where every pupil feels valued is central to our work, and safeguarding remains our highest priority. Our children, parents and staff consistently tell us that St Michael's is a place where children feel safe, happy and supported, something reflected in the positive feedback we receive through our regular parent surveys.
Beyond the classroom, we offer a rich variety of sporting, creative and academic enrichment opportunities, ensuring that every child has the chance to discover and develop their God-given talents. Working closely with families, we support each child's personal development and encourage them to grow spiritually, emotionally and physically throughout their journey with us.
I am extremely proud to be Headteacher of such a successful and caring school community. The dedication of our staff, governors, parents and pupils makes St Michael's a truly special place, and I hope this website gives you a flavour of all we have to offer.
Please take some time to explore our website and learn more about life at St Michael's. We look forward to welcoming you to our school community.
